Nervous Tension: Heed the Warning

Modern life is full of pressure, especially during the holiday season. Traffic, shopping, and juggling too-full schedules takes its toll on all of us. Many people turn to tranquilizers and anti-depressants to mask the stress and strain, which makes for a very happy holiday season for pharmaceutical companies.

Nearly every disease that strikes the body has a primary cause within the nervous system. In many cases, a feeling of agitation, frustration of being "stressed out" and overwhelmed is the only way your body can let you know something is wrong in the system. These feelings can be very similar to the symptoms of a headache (tight muscles, jaw pain due to clenched teeth), and it is not uncommon to find these conditions together. These feelings are warnings and should be heeded in the same sense that you would necessarily heed the warning lights on your car dashboard.

Chiropractic is the only science that teaches the method of releasing neurological pressure. It has compiled a remarkable record of save, effective help for victims of nervous tension disorders. Through clinical application with literally millions of patients, doctors of chiropractic have found that there is a direct connection between the physical function of the nerve system and nerve tension disorders. Nervous tension and associated disorders are not always of purely emotional origin.

Chiropractic science has also found that many cases of recurring nights of sleeplessness result from an overly tense nervous system that prevents the body from relaxing into a state of sleep. Again, many people will turn to over-the-counter or prescriptions drugs to mask the symptoms of their underlying problem. This "extra excitability" of the body needs correction, not doping with a pill. Chiropractic spinal adjustments can normalize the overly tense nervous system and induce a relaxed, normal sleep.

Chiropractic research has demonstrated that subluxated, or misaligned, spinal vertebrae contribute greatly to nervousness by creating an irritating tension on physical systems. Nervous stomach, ulcers, headaches, high blood pressure, heart disorders, skin rashes, menstrual irregularities, emotional problems and anxiety, as well as sleeplessness may all result from subluxations that need correction. See your doctor of chiropractic for the technical knowledge and skill necessary to correct physical conditions that may be contributing to your state of ill health.

Listen to Your Body

Dear Patients and Friends,

When you're feeling tired, have a stiff neck, or sense a headache coming on,
is your first reaction to reach into your medicine cabinet?

Stop!

First, take a few minutes to listen to what your body is trying to tell you.

Does that foggy feeling mean you need to get more sleep?  Or, are you feeling sluggish due to a lack of physical activity?  A nap or a brisk walk is far better for your body than a caffeine tablet.

Is your stiff neck really saying that you feel overwhelmed?  Take a few deep breaths and think calming thoughts before you reach for a bottle of muscle
relaxers.

How about that headache?  Is it telling you to slow down and take better care of yourself?  A few minutes in a quiet place with a cool compress may do the trick better than a handful of over-the-counter pain relievers.

Chiropractic is based on the belief that the body can heal itself.   When you take drugs to feel better, you're only temporarily masking the symptoms. Discovering the reasons behind your distress can lead to fewer symptoms, and better health.

Chiropractic works with you to discover the root causes of your discomfort, and to make adjustments that will allow your body to function at its best.

Yours for better health, naturally.
