Scoliosis Care in Houston
Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine curves sideways, sometimes in an “S” or “C” shape. It can be mild and barely noticeable, or more pronounced and structurally significant. At Innate Chiropractic Healing Arts Center, we support both children and adults with scoliosis using a gentle, nervous-system-centered approach that helps the body adapt more efficiently.
Can You Be Born With Scoliosis?
Yes. Some people are born with scoliosis. This is called congenital scoliosis, and it happens when the spine doesn’t form typically in the womb.
More commonly, scoliosis develops later and is called idiopathic scoliosis, meaning there isn’t one clear cause. This type is often discovered during childhood or adolescence, especially during growth spurts.
Adults can also develop scoliosis over time. Known as degenerative scoliosis, this type is typically related to spinal wear and tear, disc changes, or long-standing imbalances that gradually alter spinal alignment.
No matter when it begins, scoliosis isn’t just about the curve. It’s about how the spine and nervous system adapt to that curve.
Scoliosis in Kids and Teens
Many children with scoliosis don’t experience pain. Often, parents notice uneven shoulders, a tilted head, or one hip sitting higher than the other. During growth phases, the spine can change quickly, making early awareness important.
Our approach with kids is gentle and supportive. As a certified NetworkSpinal™ practitioner with advanced pediatric training, Houston chiropractor Dr. Jackie St.Cyr focuses on helping the nervous system stay adaptable during growth.
“We’re not trying to force a child’s spine into position,” says Dr. Jackie. “We’re helping their nervous system organize itself so their body can grow with more balance and resilience.”
By improving nervous system communication, many families notice better posture awareness, reduced muscle tension, and improved coordination.
Scoliosis in Adults
Adults with scoliosis often experience chronic back or neck tension, muscle fatigue, stiffness or reduced mobility, sciatic-type symptoms, and postural imbalance.
In adults, the goal is often comfort, function, and stress reduction. NetworkSpinal care uses light-touch contacts along the spine to help the body release stored tension and shift out of protective patterns. Rather than aggressively manipulating the spine, this approach encourages the body to reorganize from within.
Many adults report improved flexibility, better breathing capacity, and greater overall ease in daily life.
A Whole-Person Approach
Because scoliosis affects more than structure, we look at the full picture—spine, nervous system, stress levels, and lifestyle. We may use INSiGHT scans to objectively measure nervous system stress and track progress over time.
Our goal isn’t simply curve management. It’s helping you or your child feel empowered, supported, and capable of living an extraordinary life, no matter what your spine looks like on an X-ray.
